80′s Decade Box Gift Basket – Classic 80′s Candy

For you older folks see my gourmet food gift baskets reviews of candy from the 50s, 60s and 70s. While I was mostly a kid in the 1970s I didn’t graduate highschool until 1984 so I guess I can count the 80s as my decade also!

I may be more a child of the 80s than I realized. In my last post I wondered where the Pop Rocks and Now & Laters were in the 70s gift basket but they did show up in the 80s gift basket! So I am glad to see that as those candies were high on my memory banks.

After reviewing gift baskets from the 50s and 60s I finally come to a decade that I truly understand – the 70s! I have so many fond memories of eating candy when I was a child, and seeing this basket simply awakens them.

This gift basket was voted “Best Overall Value” by the Wall Street Journal’s Catalog Critic and comes with over 30 full-size pieces of candy from the 1970s – five pounds worth!

60′s Decade Box Gift Basket – Classic 60′s Candy

Last week I reviewed a gift basket of candy from the 1950s and as should be no surprise this week I am taking a look at one from the 60s. As a child of the 60s and 70s I can relate to this one much better and I am very excited to see what it has in store. The 1960s were a ery cool decade with the birth of free love, a retro floor lamp design to die for, lava lamps, and fast Mustangs. What a decade!

This gift basket was voted “#1 Nostalgic Candy Collection” by the Wall Street Journal’s Catalog Critic and comes with over 30 full-size pieces of candy from the 1960s – five pounds worth!

Here is a sampling of the candy that comes in this gift basket:

Jiffy Pop, Cup-o-Gold, Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottles, Wonka Bottlecaps, Pixy Stix, Goobers, Boston Baked Beans, Chuckles, Charms Ass’t Squares, Candy Buttons, Necco Wafers Chocolate, Cherry Mash, Necco Wafers Ass’t, Razzles, Oh! Henry Bar, Bubble Gum Cigar, Charms Sweet Pop, Zotz, Bubble Gum Cigarettes, Smoothie Peanut Butter Cups, C Howard Violet Mints, Marshmallow Cones, Candy Stix Cigarettes, Gold Mine Nugget Bubble Gum, Wax Lips, Goetze’s Cow Tail, Fruit Stripe Gum, Sen-Sen Breath Refreshment, Cherryheads, Black Licorice Pipe, Skybar, Slo-Poke Jr. Sucker, 5 Flavor Lifesavers, Big Hunk, Vanilla French Chew Taffy, Clark Bar, Chocolate Cigarettes, Maple Bun Bar

A lot of this candy takes me back, but not as much as I expect the 70s basket will. There better be Now & Laters in that one!

Here are some reviews from happy buyers:

This gift basket will bring you back to the sixties..If you remember the sixties, you will just love the assortment of genuine candies, from this era in time…This decade gift basket will make an excellent gift, for the holidays…I highly recommend this for the holidays…

This was a great gift for my wife and children. They really enjoyed the candies of yesteryear. Much candy for the price, also.

If you were a child of the 1960s or you know someone who was I think this gift basket would make a great treat.

50′s Decade Box Gift Basket – Classic 50′s Candy

This gift basket is truly amazing, particulary if you were a child growing up in the 50s. While I came a decade later I have nonetheless heard of a lot of these candies and can only imagine how cool it would be to rekindle great child memories of eating these sweets 50 years later.

This gift basket was voted “Best Overall Value” by the Wall Street Journal’s Catalog Critic and comes with over 30 full-size pieces of candy from the 1950s – five pounds worth!

Here is a sampling of the candy that comes in this gift basket:

Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottles, Chuckles, Charms Ass’t Squares, Candy Buttons, Necco Wafers Chocolate, Cherry Mash, Necco Wafers Ass’t, Mary Janes, Zagnut Bar, Sno-Caps, Violet Scented Gum, Charms Pop Sweet, Walnettos, Bubble Gum Cigarettes, Bubble Gum Cigars, Smoothie Peanut Butter Cup,Teaberry Gum, Candy Stix Cigarettes, Oh! Henry Bar, Gold Mine Nugget Gum, Wax Lips, Sen-Sen Breath Refreshment, Skybar, Chocolate Moon Pie, Black Licorice Pipe, Abba-Zaba, Slo-Poke Jr. Sucker, Vanilla French Chew Taffy, Cup-o-Gold, Chocolate Cigarettes, Slap Stix, Chick-o-stick, Butter Rum Lifesavers, Clark Bar, Goetze’s Cow Tail, Haviland Wintergreen Patty, Vanilla Bun Bar.

Almost all of this candy from the 1950s is foreign to me. Which candy do you recognize? I’ve had a Zagnut Bar, Sno-Caps, Candy Stix Cigarettes, an Oh! Henry Bar, Wax Lips, a Slo-Poke Jr. and Butter Rum Lifesavers.

If you know more than half of this candy or you know somebody who probably does I think this gift basket, while not entirely gourmet exactly, would make a great gift!

I think these two reviews by people who have bought the basket say it all:

This decade candy basket makes an excellent gift for mom dad yourself,or your friends of all ages..These will go fast. You cannot go wrong.I just purchased this as a christmas gift…5 star rated.

and

This a fun idea. Most of the candy is available at local stores, but it is nice to have someone else put it all together for you. The box is cute with the warning sticker on top. My parents loved it and reminisced for days. They got a kick out of how much their little grandchildren loved the candies.

What are you waiting for? Give it a try!

Japanese Dinner for Four Regional Gift Basket

As I have mentioned before, I am particularly fond of regional gift baskets that highlight the gourmet food of a country or a region. There is just something really special about getting a gift basket specializing in some local delicacy that you may not even be familiar with. To me it is like Heaven on Earth to imbibe in another culture’s food and drink. The other interesting part about regional gift baskets is that they often include non-food items unique to the region, such as in this gift basket with a Japanese theme. It includes an authentic batwa bag with Japanese motifs.

This gourmet food gift basket includes tempura batter for delicious Japanese appetizers, fish fillets like Sea Bream,Mackerel or Cod, miso soup, soba noodles, string beans, rice, seasoning and Japanese tea. And of course what Japanese gift basket would be complete without chopsticks?

This gift basket is a little more work than some because you have to do some cooking, but the results will be a worth it with a very unique regional dinner that is sure to surprise and delight.

Want to get a taste of international living? Then a regional gift basket will be perfect for you!
